pottery barn

Sew... I'm still slavin' away in the la.bor.a.tory!  It's comin' along just perfectly - but I was lacking inspiration for a few minutes last night!

I was lacking inspiration due to the absence of an INSPIRATION BOARD!  Not good.... not good at all...

What's a girl to do 'cept peek in to the Pottery Barn catalog?!

Then I had to go huntin' through the junk piles - and it went a lil' sumthin' like this...

A 33" canvas - garage sale find - painted over (it was an atrocious painting from the 80's I think... I'm still shuddering).

I flipped it over and stapled a couple strips of lace (stained and tattered of course!)...

And stapled a belt along the wooden support...

then trimmed it out with some more lace!  I WOULD say that I hot-glued the lace around the edge - but indeed, that's not the case - I reverted to "quick grip" - which is indeed quick!  Can't find the revered glue gun in the middle of the mess... after an hour of searching... it always gets worse before it gets better, right?  RIGHT?

Anywho - there you have it! With the addition of some kitty cat print binder clips, a silver tray and some pretty magnets (just glue sparkles on a magnet - easy!) red.neck has raided the Pottery Barn.  Once I get the pink lockers (hee-hee) moved in this weekend, I will decide where to hang it - you'll see on your tour!

Does Pottery Barn ever inspire you to go digging for treasures?

Now that I know YOUR fav.o.rite color - let me show you MINE!

Yep - pink.  Do I decorate with pink?

Nope. black, brown, red, avocado green, school bus yellar, turquoise - yep... pretty much all in one room!

Do I wear pink?  Constantly.

I do indeedy luuuuuuuuuuv me some PINK!

Although, I might have to re-think the whole "decorating with pink" thing 'cause I'm movin' a new piece of AWESOMENESS in...

uh HUH!
I hear via the grapevine that there is some SERIOUS locker envy goin' on over at "the Mindy's"SEW sorry everybodies (no I'm not... sorry for not being sorry...)- I shopped at my fav.o.rite shoppin' spot and these are:

Yeeeeeee HAW!  Wait 'til you see what I'm gonna do with these babies!!!  You know... it takes a lot to beat me to the punch over at primitiques 'cause I move like grease lightnin' and NEVER hesitate to stick my duct tape to whatever tickles my fancy... better watch out if I come to your house.  hahaHA!!!!!

Know when to fold 'em...

The resident teen and I were watching "Hoarders" the other night (have you seen that show?  It always makes me want to clean.) and my mind started racing... so much so that I said out loud, "oh my gosh - do you think that's ME in a few years?"

His response was this:
"no Mom, you get rid of stuff... these people don't get rid of anything."

Do you hear that bird chirping?  I wonder what kind it is...

I love that kid.  He's so delusional - and OBVIOUSLY has not been in the "la.bor.a.tory" recently.

But I have been!  I went into lock-down Friday night and only came up for air yesterday!!!  The count down is ON for you to take the tour of the mad-lab!

Sometimes though - when a girl is all bizzzzzy folding and stuff she gets hungry (and she can't cook - and the fire department LIKES her locked up in the la.bor.a.tory)...

Spread meat mixture lengthwise in a 4" wide strip down the center of dough to within 1" of ends.
Top meat with cheese.
Fold sides and ends of dough 1" over filling.
Bring long ends over, crimping the edges.
Pinch edges to seal.
Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

... and she starts to wonder...  What time is dinner at your house tonight?

Happy Monday - I hope you had a WONDERFUL week-end!!!

pearls, lace and calamine lotion

Happy Friday!!!

I've been slavin' away in the la.bor.a.tory the past couple of days... smackin' skeeters - applyin' no-scratchy cream - sorting out and putting away clutter... well, as you can guess, THAT didn't hold my attention long...

so I made a necklace! Have you noticed all of the lace popping up here and there in dresses, handbags, home decor.... jewelry? I sure have... and have wanted each piece that I've seen!!!

What's a girl to do but pull out a piece of lace and get bizzzzzy! You can do this too! Seriously - if you have never made jewlery before - it's crazy fun... here's some tips and techniques to get you started!!! All that is required for this necklace is a lace medallion (or one that you cut out of something else!),

some chain (either new or salvaged), a clasp and jump rings...

and because I am who I am - and you are who you are: and we are only limited by our creativity (that's my Friday pearl of wisdom...) I had to add a lil' sumthin'... like pearls. heeeeee HA! Ain't no red.neck gonna go out without her pearls.

How cute will this be on a tank top and jeans day? I'd model it for you, but... I took Mr. Flannery's advice on the whole skeeter issue:

"Maybe you can dip yourself into calimine lotion like a weiner in corn dog batter. It would make for a great pink girly look. Relief, but would it clash with your red hair?"

Yeah... it clashes... but the pink is so PRETTY!!!

Anywho - the reason I've been workin' so hard in the la.bor.a.tory is because I went and signed myself up for the "Where Bloggers Create II" party over at My Desert Cottage! I'm sew excited... I've got over 10 years worth of purse designin' business (that's a whole lotta purses I've been making...whew... and I'm almost on 11 years!) all in one room - and until June 19th to take you on a tour!

What are you doing this week-end?  This is just two shelves out of... well... a few... and I pay in purses and lace necklaces!!!

Comin' to you LIVE from a single-wide (and hoping I make it out of the la.bor.a.tory!)... hee-hee

Have a WONDERFUL week-end!!!

Wednesday, May 19

war.

I'm declaring war on the mosquito population at the single-wide.  They've done made me mad.  I'm not even feelin' that their portraits in this post are worthy of my duct tape labels... that's how mad I am.  And miserable... yeah, I'm gonna whine in this post... like the sound of a stinkin' skeeter buzzin' around my head.

I. Am. Miserable.  Mosquito bites on top of mosquito bites on top of more...

And. I. Itch.  Nothin' seems to be stoppin' the itch - I look like I have fleas!!!  And I have welts as big as quarters - and bruises from the scratchin'...

I. Am. Declaring. War.

Some people are more attractive to mosquitoes than others. It is not clear why, but
probably has something to do with the 300 odd chemicals produced by the skin. What the heck?  Oh... it's 'cause I'm so sweet (snicker, snort, smirk AND eye roll inserted here.)

Mosquitoes can fly 1 to 1 & 1/2 miles per hour. That's it - I'm yankin' their wings off.

It takes 400,000 mosquitoes to weigh a pound! And... they are using ME as their scale.

There are approximately 3,000 different species of mosquitoes. Of that, 50 of those species live in Minnesota... I'm fairly certain the other 2500 species live in Texas. And - because EVERYTHING is bigger in Texas...

I'm sure that applies to the stinkin' skeeters.

Mosquito repellents don’t actually repel the mosquitoes but blocks their sensory receptors which acts like a human shield. Mosquito’s sense of smell is 10,000 times greater than humans. Eating garlic or taking a garlic pill daily is supposed to keep the mosquitoes away. Garlic would keep anything away!

Mosquito’s are attracted to the color blue twice as much as to any other color... oh... so THAT's why blue is my least favorite color!!!  Now I know.

In a single second, a mosquito's wings beat from 300 to about 600 times and male mosquitoes find their females by listening to the sound of the wings beating. Again... OFF WITH THEIR WINGS!

The welt that appears after a mosquito bite is said to be an allergic reaction to the saliva injected to a person’s skin to prevent blood clotting...

I. Declare. War.
And... please help... any stop-the-itching advice you might have for me?  I'm giving you my most pitiful puppy dog eyeballs and even my freckles have the itchy...

Sad and scratching - but still comin' to you LIVE (barely) from a single-wide...heehee

black and white

My life is not ALWAYS (but mostly) lived in vivid colors...

Hey - I said "mostly" up there.

I do indeed get caught often changing my personal photos to black and white.  There is just something about black and white photos (and tractors too...)

that tickles my fancy.  Then, tickles it again.  The Walgreens photo center probably thinks I have only one mode...

the "classic" mode on my camera.  HEEEEE HA!

I REALLY have to backtrack on myself sometimes because it occurs to me that YOU might not get as much of a thrill as I do out of black and white photos...

so I thought I would ask you... what's your take on black and white photos?

Also - since I'm askin'... curious minds want to know (I've been watching too much TV - and Mike Rowe (dirty jobs) (he advertises for Ford) is... well... he tickles my fancy too...) we have the "Texas Edition" Ford pick 'em up trucks 'round this neck-o-the-woods... does Minnesota have a "Minnesota Edition"?  How about Missouri?  Nebraska?  Arkansas? California?

Comin' to you LIVE from a single-wide... The Texas Edition... hee-hee

Sparkles in my eye!

Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes shine to the stars. Enthusiasm is the sparkle in your eyes, the swing in your gait. The grip of your hand, the irresistible surge of will and energy to execute your ideas.
Henry Ford

Friday morning on the way to my "make-some-money-so-I-can-buy-the-sparkles" job, I showed my freckled face at a garage sale!  I'm absolutely positive it was fate...

'cause there was some SERIOUS bling spread out in all it's majestic glory... just waiting for me!!!

Brooches - ear baubles - necklaces - the list goes on!

There are a MILLION many things vintage sparkles can be used for!!!  I - being the red.neck I am - will use them on  handbags of course - but...

what do YOU use your sparkley blingy goodness for?

Have a blinged out / sparkled up / enthusiastic and HAPPY Monday!!!

love story.

Two lonely lamps meet on a junk store shelf and start to date

Very soon they fall in love so it must have been fate

They name the day as their love has proved resilient

The ceremony was rubbish but the reception was brilliant.
